Activities » Biogas production from lignocellulosic waste By

Biogas production is a source of alternative energy source and the production from lignocellulosic waste is significant in managing the solid waste. Methane production from lignocellulosic waste like water hyacinth, parthenium, animal fodder grass in combination with cow dung in different ratios was carried out at laboratory level. The water hyacinth and cow dung in the ratio of 50:50 gave 24% methane and the methane production from animal fodder grass was about 73% at 50:50 ratio. Since the fodder grass is not a waste, we further studied the methane production from water hyacinth and parthenium only. This technology is still in the primitive stage and has to be tested extensively before dissemination, which will help the beneficiaries to produce methane from solid waste at least for their own usage.
